Tolkien Tuesday: a positive community-building event

Twitter (aka X) can be a hellscape of hatred, but fortunately there are people online who are determined to fight back and focus on positive community-building actions. At the forefront of this effort is Tim Bolton, who has created the #TolkienTuesday / #TolkienTrewsday event. A theme is announced before every Tuesday and anyone is invited to post anything they like on the theme, as long as it’s respectful.

For more information on Tolkien Tuesday, see Tim’s Introducing Tolkien Trewsday.

Today’s theme offers a choice: Poetry or Creatures. If you’re on Twitter, look for @timboltonuk or @tolkientrewsday or search with the hashtags (#TolkienTuesday or #TolkienTrewsday) to read entries for today’s themes.

For my part, I’ll take poetry as my theme, not surprisingly perhaps, as I’ve been working on the Tolkien and Alliterative Verse website. What’s your favourite alliterative poem by Tolkien? Given my recent research, I’ll go for Tolkien’s alliterative play, The Homecoming of Beorhtnoth, but there are many other possibilities. For a list of his works, take a look at our descriptive bibliography. There’s probably more to choose from than you think!

    • Tolkien Tuesday has been going on a long time but when I started Tolkien Trewsday back in February 2023 I think it had been retired. I based the new event on Folklore Thursday. I’m not on Mastodon (yet) but I do run the event from Twitter, BlueSky and a few other places on occasaion.
